Scrubless

When you can't remember which episode that quote was in

You can hear the line in your head. You just don’t know which episode it was in.

If you keep more than thirty shows, you’ve had this exact moment. The line you want to clip is somewhere in eight years of recordings, the show notes don’t reference it, the transcript service you used in 2022 is no longer hosting your files, and there is no version of “ctrl-F the back catalog” that exists.

Scrubless is the version of that ctrl-F.

Drop the folder in, wait for it to index, type the line. “When the guest realizes she’d been wrong about pricing the whole time.” You get the episode, the timestamp, a thumbnail of the moment, and a one-click jump to that exact second.

A guy I know who runs a tech show in his garage uses it for one thing on Monday mornings: pulling social clips. “The guest gets defensive.” “He laughs at his own joke and the room doesn’t.” Three clips, ten minutes, his Tuesday content is done. Before this his Mondays were a four-hour scrub through episodes he barely remembered recording.

The Q&A is a smaller habit but it’s the one that sneaks up on people. “Which guests have brought up burnout?” “Has anyone ever complimented the show theme?” You get a written answer with bracketed timestamps you click to land on the moment.

If you ever want a chronological tour of one topic across years of a show, this is also probably the only tool that does it. Most podcasters don’t think they need that until they have it.
